What can be causes of association betweent type I diabetes and epileptic encephalopaty, is 9 years old. The child is on 4 AED's and has continuous spike wave discharges in the temporal and parietal left side, during awake and 50 % during sleep (the recording was very short in sleep but on the recorded interval this waves persisted alos in stage I-II of sleep, I say disappeared in Stage III of sleep but after that stage appeared other discharges in all the derivation (8 channel registration) .

Such relationship might be due to dehydration on either intracellular or extracellular levels due to lack of insulin ( i.e., glucose excluded from the osmoreceptor would createan osmotic gradient and cellular dehydration).
Hi, should also search for GAD (glutamic acid decarboxylase) autoantibodies ; they are frequently associated with epilepsy ( mainly pharmacoresistant temporal lobe seizures) and diabetes I.
