I am trying to simulate pulse detonation engine in ANSYS. I have tried using chemical kinematics file from Gri-mech 3.0. A deflagration simulation is being presented instead of detonation. I am using inlet flow pressure of 50 bar. The inlet velocity of the fluid is translating to greater than the sonic velocity of the gas. A long cylinder combustion chamber with a Shchelkin spiral is used. A temperature of over 3000K and velocity of over 4000m/s is observed. However, a proper detonation waves are not being observed. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Dear Arvind Pallela, I hope you are using the reactive flow model in ANSYS Fluent. Undoubtedly, you will be running a transient simulation with a very minimum timestep. Ensure the timestep value is small enough and sufficient to capture the changes of parameters with such a high velocity as 4000m/s. Setting up the pressure contours at the appropriate plane may help you to figure out the spots of detonations and their intensity. It is important to plot the contours at each timestep and ensure the difference in pressure waves between successive timesteps is small.
Parallely you can also monitor the spatial pressure gradient by introducing a line or rake along the plane where you expect the gradient. Save the values of pressure at the line/rake as an output file. Then plot it after time timesteps to observe the steep pressure gradient.

Dear Prince Abraham , I am using a reacting species model with the desired conditions and getting a flow velocity of 6000m/s. However, the main problem is that there are no shockwaves being formed. I am using very small time steps i.e 1e-6s. I have attached a photo for your reference.
