There are several biological applications for carbonic structures like C60 or nanotubes including drug delivery. But graphene, a plate of carbon, has not any vacant space for drug loading. I'm interested in this structure, and need to find a practical application for it.

In Raman spectroscopy, Graphene can be employed as a SERS (Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering) substrate instead of or with common SERS substrates like Ag and Au. By using the SERS substrate, Raman intensity is enhanced. Therefore, detection of single molecule or DNA could become achievable in Raman spectroscopy. Functionalized graphene oxide sheet can be used to gene delivery. Recently, researchers found that Square shaped nanostructures (like graphene) have better penetration to cell membrane rather than cylindrical ones(like carbon nanotubes).
