However, I want to broaden the question. First, ”m-learning” is one expression/term of many of the form ”x-learning” (like e-learning, b-learning, etc. They try to tell us that learning is now dramatically different. I am not so sure - it is more the teaching organisation, instrumentation and logistics that are changing. But many use ”learning” when they mean teaching. How people in the end learn, we know less about. Biesta call this phenomenon ”the learnification of education” and views it as a commercial marketing phenomenon. Check my slide presentation below on the ”Learning alphabet” with a data collection and critical view on this.

Furthermore, learning as a cognitive process has always moved with the learner, it can hardly happen somewhere else than at the learners physical location as a body. But better designed and tech-enabled teaching and student peer communication can anyway enable more people to learn, to be included. But they do not m- , e- or x- learn, they learn in personal ways with the help they get, but also go other ways.

In my oppinion, the most important barrier is not in the students' behavior or acceptance: the mind shift of teachers is the real barrier in the adoption of deployment of m-learning in higher education or another education level.

Dear Prof Jonathan Álvarez Ariza , we have published recently a systematic review [1] that contains rich evidence from 45 empirical studies that employ m-learning and more specifically Augmented Reality (AR) extensively in Engineering and other STEM fields in Higher Education. Mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets can be used effectively in Engineering education to augment (i) digital laboratory equipment as well as (ii) handbooks and instructional sheets and even (iii) physical objects to implement specific instructional strategies including hands-on experience, cooperative activities, discovery and presentation of 3D and multimedia material. I hope this review will be helpful for your research.
