I intended to synthesise carbon dots using bottom-up methods. Similar carbon dots, my product is yellowish brown and it has excellent blue fluorescence and Tyndall effect, but I don't take peak 20-26 degree in XRD. Actually, it appears in 12 degrees (below image). What is your suggestion about my sample? Is it carbon dots?
I suppose "peak " you observe at 12° is just background noise. I think your signal to noise ratio is too low to actually say something about the crystallinity of your sample.
Hi ayoub....by looking at your xrd diffractogram, seemed that your background data is fluctuated (as mentioned by Mark as S/N ratio). My suggestion re-prepare/recalcine and then rerun XRD analysis with count/sec higher. Since the representative peaks for C-dots were not appeared.
at 12o is the peak of Graphene Oxide, which also have brown color.
Are sure that you prepare carbon dots?
My synthesis method is hydrothermal and bottom-up (carbon source is from small organic molecules, no graphite), thus it is so impossible this peak correspond to graphene oxide. I am not sure that what has synthesized, but fluorescence and absorbance and IR spectrums is exactly synchronization carbon dots (or graphene quantum dots).
The noise dominates the signal.
You can retry the experiment.
