Research Gate raises questions about data sources for the needs of research. One of these types of questions related to the collection of data from companies, financial institutions, which in various countries provide specific financial services.
Answering this type of question, I formulated the following answer: I suggest first to identify these companies in individual countries and check what they publish on their websites. In addition, a good form of data collection for the conducted research is the development of a survey form and sending to surveyed companies, organizations and financial institutions that offer specific services.
However, there are many more types and forms of collection of primary or processed data, created in various business entities, financial institutions, public or in research units, statistical offices and other entities. In addition, interviews, consultations, expert discussions, etc.
Some forms of data collection for the needs of scientific research are characteristic of the specifics of research projects and specific knowledge. i have no experience with these sorts of data but am replying since i feel it is likely that one of my data collection programs will not otherwise be mentioned. i recommend DEVONthink (especially Pro Office) for virtually any type of database use. it is amazingly versatile, fast with great support online via a very active community of users many of whom have written scripts for it. it has some unusual features like concordance. i have an entire book of authors, manuscripts, addresses, et cet. in one database file now. it will absorb almost any file format, by the way. take a look. disclosure: i am just a user and have no vested interest; nor do i know anyone in their development, management. i just have a great deal of respect.
What are your favorite forms of data collection for research?
Data collection method is depending on what research problem to address / resolve, research objectives & questions as well as whether it is quantitative or qualitative or mixed method research. Of course our preferred data collection method or data collection method which we are familiar with also can influence how we choose / adjust our research topic, problem, objective, questions & research method. My personal experience is data collection takes very long time, so I prefer to shorten it using online survey for relevant quantitative research. For qualitative research, I usually use interview or sometimes focus group discussions to collect audio data before transcription.
It depends on data type like qualitative or quantitative along with research problems, resources and time.
In qualitative research, I prefer in-depth interview and focus group discussions because they lead to conversations with greater depth and breadth than would normally occur on an individual interview basis. In in-depth interviews one explores the complex nature of meanings and interpretations that cannot be investigated using structured interviews.
I agree with most of the above views. Within my environment I found that most of the time both quantitative (data, such as reported crimes) and qualitative (interviews with subjected matter experts) approaches are required. In this regard the first section is used to highlight the issue at hand, followed by the second part to obtain a holistic view. This is important, especially when the researcher needs to developed a concept model, such as a crime model that can be used explain crime trends or prediction models.
