The SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus pandemic has caused many changes in economies, in individual sectors and industries, and in particular types of markets. My experience in observing the changes in individual markets caused by the Coronavirus pandemic is similar to what you wrote. Disruptions in the supply of certain types of products occur to a small extent. Disruptions to the supply of certain different types of services are much more severe in the sectors of the economy most affected by the Coronavirus pandemic and in sectors where lockdowns have been imposed as instruments for crisis management and anti-pandemic safety. First of all, there are disruptions in the supply of services on the markets of tourist, hotel, gastronomic and other related companies, where a special feature is direct social contact and the inability to provide such services only via the Internet. In addition, in connection with high-budget government support programs for commercially operating companies under the so-called Crisis shields as interventionist programs of socio-economic policy involve an increase in inflation. Since many small service companies have created their websites equipped with online platforms for selling product or service offers, the sectors of e-commerce, internet sales, courier companies, internet technology companies, internet payment systems and internet banking are developing strongly. The pandemic has accelerated the processes of internetisation and digitization of the development of various types of product or service markets. The logistics of supply and distribution of the manufactured offers of products or services is supplemented with e-logistics by increasing the scale of using the Internet, ICT and Industry 4.0 information technologies in the scope of conducted business activities. Logistic chains of distribution of companies' offers have been shortened and a significant part of their activities, including sales and / or distribution of product or service offers, are transferred to online platforms.

Pandemic has changed the market scenario to a different level because buyers and sellers both are more cautious now. From the business point of view, market is still in progressive phase. It will take some more time to be stable like before.

This evening, I was in the local market to buy some grocery. I saw plenty of people outside the market premises without masks. They were roaming about most proudly. Somehow these people appear very funny and mysterious to me. I do not understand why death does not scare these people even one bit.

This "buying fever" is the usual consumer behavior in such crises. The crisis also showed sellers ’monopolization of goods due to the suspension of imports, and they raised the prices, which reduced the purchasing power of the poor, and this raised the percentage of those below the poverty line

Dear Dr Anamitra Roy, I completely agree with your argument. You have mentioned about distribution and sales - not pointed out the production (the first stage). Though you are right in excluding the production aspect, as the scope of your question-initiated discussion is about market place - I wish relate these two. Kindly permit.

1. Production units - either completely closed or operated at the minimum of their capacity.

2. Many such production units paid only half of the monthly salary (some business units have not paid at all)

3. This has resulted in the reduction of discretionary (income) expenditures of employees - purchase of other than basic needs got affected.

4. And, the loss in income for the employees created fear in the mind - they have started saving more for the future (the paradox is now they have less money (after spending for their basic needs) but want to save more.

5. This like a chain effect, loss of income for the business unit - stopped their expansion plans- R& D expenditures cut down.

6. I think .....the economy is (will) taking time to heal.

You are absolutely right in adding the production units here because they are also a part of the market. Your explanation proves that the problem started from the production units and so demand in the markets is getting impacted. All the points that you have mentioned are worth mentioning. I will speak particularly about the last point, where you said that the economy will take time to heal. This is of great concern for all of us. It was wonderful to see the way you used consumer psychology to show us the condition of the markets.

To be realistic, here in Nigeria, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a lot of instabilities in the socio-economic activities.

But sincerely, the social distancing, washing of hands, avoiding crowdy areas and use of nose mask, lots of people are not considering it relevant anymore expect in some reputable organizations/sectors. People are back to thier normal activities as usual.

I am really confused because some other countries are now in their second phase of lockdown.

The following experiences regarding market :

1. Inflation leads to high price of essential goods

2. Unjustified redistribution of prices

3. Less production of food increases the price of food but the farmers are not getting the justified money to live

4. Same is the case for industry

5. Mask and sanitiser companies are grown up here and there and costing in such a way that is not supervised by the Government and people are suffering.

And so many effects in different types of goods and commodities and created an unstable financial situation.

All these are my observations.
