There are various factors like adhesion, flexibility, Tg, which may influence adhesive strength of coating. In my case, I had prepared 3 batches of solid epoxy coating. I observed that the trend which I am getting for flexibility is exactly opposite to that of abrasion resistance. Also there was no such correlation found for abrasion resistance with Tg and Adhesive strength. But Tg and adhesive strength showed the same trend. Also my Tg was found to be 92oC. So can anyone tell me how flexibility has influence on abrasion resistance.
Hello dear, when you have a < Tg of your material, this is more flexible. Therefore, it have lower compression resistance and so low abrasion resistance. It can explain your results
Many physical and chemical factors are involved in the 'abrasion resistance' of a paint or coating. One of the main factors is the toughness/cut resistance of the polymer at and above room temperature. It is not sufficient to have a good degree of elongation or chain flexibility without having sufficient bond strength to avoid making two new surfaces.
