After collecting sea water samples, we need to prevent the biological activities for obtaining CDOM. Addition of HgCl2 causes death of organisms in water. This might increase the organic content due to decay of exisiting plankton. Are there any other methods to store water samples and analyse them later. If so, till how many hours can the additive stop the biological activity without destroying it?
We often add activated charcoal as an inert additive ...and later it becomes easier for analysis as well...
