What do you think are the most important AI research topics for 2022? Will the focus be more on developing new algorithms or on optimizing hyperparameters? Will we trust neural networks that work well but whose decision rules are unclear, or will we prefer to use models whose decision rules are transparent?
I think this is a very interesting question. According to my observation, the synergy of AI with other emerging technologies, like blockchain, will play a decisive role. This might also tackle current AI challenges, for example within XAI. You can check my conference paper dealing with this topic:

Marko Kureljusic That's an interesting question. I do not see how a blockchain might lead to a new AI algorithm. To me, it is more likely that blockchain will help to ensure the integrity of AI training data. Here, blockchain might also have potential as the underlying technology of a data marketplace.
The current hot topic in AI is Humanizing Machine Intelligence, with data from social sciences e.g., Law, Politics, Sociologies, philosophies etc., via analyzing over statistical/mathematical models for real world applications various industries.
