1. Capability to handle tons of data (historical, test or real time data): Mostly, the real time data are continuous and of high frequency. For example, problems of continuous monitoring and diagnostic of system needs to analyze large size of data. A high capacity data server will be needed for this purpose.
2. High performance computational facility: Manufacturing planning problem generally involves more than 1000 parameters and 100 variables. Most of these parameters are stochastic in nature. For example, demand rate, failure rate, service rate, etc. Moreover the problems are often of combinatorial nature. The size of problems does not permit it to solve on conventional computer. A high speed workstation will be required to solve such problems. Moreover, the future of industrial engineering research lies in the capability to solve a large problem by dividing it into smaller ones, which are then solved concurrently ("in parallel"). Parallel computing facility will therefore be required in future.
3. Capability to manage multiple software licences: There are many server based software in industrial engineering, like DELMIA, ARINA, @Risk, etc. A licence management server will be required for such software.
