Cyanide ions are considered to be highly toxic. Many industrial waste water contains Cyanide ions which leaches down to ground water resources if not properly treated before dumping on the ground.
Cyanide has many industrial and commercial uses. It is used in industry for metal finishing, medical applications, mining and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Commercial applications such as printers inks have it as a component of their inks. Pest companies use it as a pesticide and algaecide.
The Cyanide is used for precious metals (especially gold and silver) from ores. Although the CN-ions should be removed from residuals, the residuals of cyanidation plants usually contain high concentrations of CN. This CN-ions have almost high move-ability and can be transferred to the soil and ground and underground waters, around the cyanidation plants.
