What are the roles of quantitative MRI and/or MR relaxometry in human age estimation?

I have seen quite a number of research efforts using some form of quantitative magnetic resonance imaging methods for human age estimation. What application could magnetic resonance relaxometry and related quantitative MR methods have in this field. Your suggestions and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
