Today's Molecular Biology laboratory should have the basic equipment which is the PCR machine called the Thermal Cycler and the gel electrophoresis unit both horizontal and vertical. Besides these, the laboratory should have a refrigerator and a - 20 degree C freezer to store all molecular biology related chemicals in addition to other chemicals as well as biological samples. Having a - 80 degree C freezer would be even better if samples are needed to be stored for long-term. Even mammalian cells can be stored at - 80 degree C for 6 months to one year.

To perform PCR you will require a PCR hood as well as calibrated micropipettes, besides other sterile consumables like micro tips, appendoff tubes, pcr tubes, etc.

If you have enough budget, you can move one step ahead and purchase Real Time PCR machine to study gene expression including polymorphism. Nanodrop spectrophotometer will be needed in the laboratory to quantify nucleic acids for further analysis.

If you are still left with excess funds, then you can go ahead and purchase Sanger sequencing machine which will boost your research work in cancer particularly in identifying mutations.

As per your research requirements in cancer related work you will also need a Flow Cytometer to study the physical characteristic and/or markers called antigens on the cell surface or within cells that are unique to each cell type.

Lastly, Next Generation sequencing is the latest equipment in Molecular Biology which not many laboratories can afford, but having one will always benefit the researchers.

I think one of the changes consist on the plasticware and the glassware. we normally tend to use the glassware, but it is a fact which has been gradually changing over the years. Maybe to have the shelves made of glass, with good preservation properties is the best. Yes, made of glass would be brilliant, and of course use more glassware. Plasticware can be used, but maybe they emphasize the use of glass.

Molecular biology laboratory require various equipment like polymerase chain reaction (PCR) machine ,electrphoresis unit, gel documentation system, microcentrifuge, deep freeze , refrigerator, balance, shaker incubator, hood, autoclave, Nanodrop, machine for seqenceng if the experiment require ,water bath, micropippete in different volumes, PCR tubes, appendroff tubes,........

Hi, you will have to master the 5 M's: Medium, Methods, Material, Men, and Matrix to be analyzed. First, to ensure the forward march, you must have at least three rooms: one for the treatment of the matrix to be analyzed (samples preparation and nucleic acid extraction...: the dirty room), a second for the storage of reagents and their preparation (Mix preparation: the cleanroom) and one third for reactions and revelations (thermocyclers room, electrophoresis, etc.). Each room must have its own set of equipment (Micropipettes, refrigerators, freezers, centrifuges, etc.) to avoid cross-contamination. You will find useful information in the attached document.

In addition to what Fatima Moeen Abbas listed, you will also need growth media powders (complex and minimal media), salts eg cacl2,KCl; supplements for growth media e.g. glucose, thiamine, MgSO4.7H2O; antibiotics; sterile filter units; buffers for electrophoresis; DNA extraction kits; PCR purification kits; reagents for protein assays; reagents for western blots, spectrophotometers or plate readers for growth assay; vacuum filters; cloning kits or reagents (ligases, restriction enzymes, MilliQ water), sonicator etc.
