Your question is very broad and I don't have the breadth of knowledge to provide a thorough answer. However, a comment: "high efficiency" is often less important than "cost of energy" in these renewable energy technologies, since the "fuel" is essentially free and costs are driven largely by capital cost.

For wind power, the number of blades, their distance, thickness and material density makes ALL the difference in terms of efficiency and higher energy production rates.

Unfortunately, Vivekanandan, my research does not extend to solar...however I do know that their efficiency is getting better and the cost of the manufacturing of the PV cells is getting lower as more is invested in the technology at an international scale - China currently manufactures very cheap solar panels, however I cannot say that they are necessarily more efficient. The determination of their cost effectiveness is also determined in terms of how much energy they can produce in a short period of time, for instance they are more beneficent in a high solar zone compared to a zone that barely gets any sunny weather (basics I'm afraid). Apologies I could not be of more assistance in the solar field.
So in answer to your secondary point, I could choose wind over solar personally, but it is all relevant to the location you plan to implement it.
