Providing sufficient tools for bachelor degree Mechanical Engineering students to excel in nowadays expectation is crucial. What are your recommended design-analytical software to cover the whole spectrum of Mechanical Engineering studies so by the time students perform their capstone design project, they are sufficiently equipped.

well it is not an easy question to be answered, as you know we have many different sub-branches of said subject, fluids mechanics, solids mechanics, control systems and so on and so forth.
In my idea for an average or above average student in BSc of mechanical engineering a side of these softwares would suffice, indeed based on their interest in the sub branches,
solidworks or CATIA : satisfies the need of a mechanical engineer to design and create parts, my choice is solidworks but overall there is no big difference, both can do a good job
ABAQUS or ANSYS or FLUENT: satisfies the need of analysis of said parts or the CFD analysis of said subjects.
MATLAB : no matter the engineering class, everyone needs to know how to write basic codes to satisfy simple problem solving methods.
indeed there are many many more tools and applications and they are all very effective and important but as a mechanical engineer with research experience, i found that these are more than enough to guide a BSc to a better start of Masters or phd program. i hope this has helped you with your question.

I recommend Solidworks for mechanical design and analysis,
Matlab for computations, programming, and simulation, and
Arena for systems simulation.
Hi Dr. Taib, it has been awhile, if you can still remember me... I would recommend AutoCad and Solidwork for mechanical drawing, design and analysis. Matlab for programming and simulation. Abaqus and ANSYS for numerical analysis. However, i would also recommend mechanical engineering students to explore a little bit on some hardware programming such as Arduino. This is especially important for student to understand the use of programming knowledge into hardware implementation.
