We all know throttling losses are a predominate reason for low part load efficiency. I wish to know how we can reduce this. If not possible how we can use this throttling effect to improve combustion in part loads. Can we increase the degree of turbulence with the throttling effect.
By controlling by the amount of injected fuel . No we should not increase the degree of turbulence.
Part load operation of SI engines is achieved by the use of a throttle to restrict the airflow into the engine. Hence allowing the quantity of fuel that is injected to be reduced, whilst maintaining a constant air-fuel ratio. Engines are therefore designed to minimise the restriction of air flowing into the engine, so that the air can be drawn into the cylinder as close as possible to atmospheric pressure. So, the part load pumping losses partially account for the poor economy of SI engines when compared to diesel engines, which do not require throttling to operate at part load. we can use a variable valve lift and duration system to change our part load operating strategy and therefore improve fuel economy as EIVC and LIVC and also uses gasoline direct injection, exhaust gas recirculation and cylinder deactivation.
