I am working on a hemin induced toxicity study, but have come across some challenges with using hemin. I was able to successfully prepare a 1 mM hemin solution using neat DMSO. However, my vehicle (0.01% DMSO) is killing my cells. I have attempted to prepare a solution of higher concentration, so that when it is used for treatment in a 6-well plate the percentage of DMSO is lower, but the hemin will not dissolve. It appears that 1 mM is the maximum concentration. Are there other solvents / solvent combinations that could be used to prepare this solution?
