I'm an undergraduate student in biology, and I study aquatic insect ecology with a focus on biodiversity and conservation, ecotoxicology, and trophic relationships. Scientific materials on the evolution of aquatic insects would be important for a better overall understanding. However, I'm having difficulty finding these materials. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Are you sure it's evolution and not adaptation, since we do not observe the production of new species? I personally avoid such a broad hypothesis (evolution) since it is almost unprovable :)
Andrew Paul McKenzie Pegman I understand that we can't observe the "production" of new species haha. I meant references of what science know about the phylogeny and, of course, adaptations. Used "evolution" in a general therm, rather than as a hypothesis. Thank you :)
Yes, of course. I always request authors to remove the term 'evolution' though when I review because of course they are talking about adaptation usually :)
Diogo Ramos Pacheco, I might recommend the fifth edition of; An Introduction to the Aquatic Insects of North America, edited by Merritt, Cummins, and Berg. The initial chapters address some issues you'd be interested in and provide a wealth of cited literature to further pursue those interests. Good luck.
