With increase of technology and smartphones the world around us has changed a lot. Now situation is worst with engement to technology became addiction. Lets find solution
The addiction is due to the fear that you miss out of something. When you have analyzed why it is so dangerous to miss out on the number of patients with Corona virus or how cold it is in Lapland today, then the miss-out fear may decrease and you can again look at the nature or at other people when you meet them.
It is difficult to avoid internet use in present era. Make understand them to use internet intelligently and effectively for the betterment. Cognitive restructuring through various techniques can be used.
I think it is better to add orientation curricula for students in primary and secondary schools in time management in using the Internet service in a beneficial way for physical and mental health.
I agree with Arcelan S. Sadiq. In modern days we have to use the Internet all the time but we do not get properly taught how to use it and what the dangers are. Education on how to move in a technological environment, how to cope with FOMO, shitstorms, social media and social comparison should be an integral part of early education, not just so the next generation is prepared from a knowledge point of view but also for their mental health.
I agree with Arcelan S. Sadiq, Theresa Pratters and with the suggestions about psychotherapy. I also think that it would be useful to understand the reasons why any specific person develops an internet addiction disorder. Sometimes living in the internet can be an alternative to a "real" life that can be psychologically complicated. So I think that we need not to be trapped by the symptoms, by the problem in itself, we need also to look at what people avoid by spending all their time on the internet.
Tackling internet addiction is comparable to food addictions. Abstinence is difficult to manage because of the necessity in our daily lives. Instead, I may look to help people recognize the part of their web-habit that is interfering with their daily life, and help them find healthier strategies. The reasons for over-use may not be addiction; instead it may be about using the internet as a coping mechanism for other things going on in their life (i.e. avoidance).I may tackle the "fear of missing out" piece or other discursive thoughts that interfere with their cognitive processes through MBCT or CBT or other therapy modality depending on the clients strengths and fit the approach style to match.
Just as Boshra has said earlier, the most effective approach is the use of cognitive behavioural therapy (which has been found to be effective in many addictive disorders). Of course, no therapy will work if there is no motivation to change.
I agree to many who have responded here. I was able to moderate the usage of such an addiction in young adults by using CBT and by first doing motivational techniques/therapy.
