I am working on anthracite coal and trying to change its amorphous structure. After deashing and devolatilization, what other possible ways are there to induce stacked or layered structure in it except thermal treatment in which 2000 - 3000 C temperature and/catalyst is required?

To introduced functional groups, there is way using oxidizing process by nitrification by concentrated nitric acid. This method is good in view of the functional groups introducing.

Hi there,
As a suggestion, perhaps you could try liquefaction or microwave treatments. Both approaches are low-temperature process known to modify the chemical structure of coals. Hope this helps with your study.
