Library Automation is an intelligent process for both users and librarians because it saves time. In India, some libraries are fully automated, some are partially, and some are under processing for automation.

Library automation refers to the use of computer and other ICT tools to replace manual systems in a library in order to automate typical library procedures such as acquisition, cataloguing, and circulation. Automation is a process of using machinery to work more efficiently and save human power and time.
The parameters for considering Library Automation are and not limited to Collection, User Base, Circulation of Lending Material, Library Budget etc.
Library Automation should make life easy for the people working in the library instead of complicating it. A good library system must be easy to understand, customizable, user friendly and adaptable to upcoming changes. It should be able to include all types of resources. There should be regular upgradation to include new technology and changing needs of the Library users.
