Dear Pavan: to be able to answer your question a I need to know what is the quality molasses wastewater (BOD5, CODCr, total nitrogen content at least) as well as quality of waste activated sludge (dry matter content at least).

Without knowledge what kind of wastewater and waste activated sludge should be treated it is not possible to put valuable answer.

A good place to start would be around 0.25-0.30g VSS/g COD. Based on your molasses [X] and SRT, the MLSS will then tell you where it needs to be.

The best way to solve this problem is to adjust the Food / Mass (F/M) ratios. There are certain assumptions according to sources. For example, (F/M) ratio according to Metcalf & Eddy is 0.2-0.4 in conventional activated sludge systems. But if you want the system to perform nitrification, for example, this ratio should be between 0.10 and 0.25. However, As Mr Mateju has reported, the components in the wastewater must also be suitable for bacterial growth. In short, I suggest you take a look at Metcalf & Eddy.

you should think also of oxygen which could be limiting when you feed with high BOD wastewater
