We have a Quantel Q-Smart 450 laser which has some editable parameter to set such as Flashlamp pulse width and Q-Switch delays. Can anyone explain the relationship between the flashlamp "Pulse width" and "FL-Q-Switch delay" values? If I look for a pulse with high energy, what are the values need to be set in both field? If anybody is using this similar type of laser model, It would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

1. The best way is to ask Quantel techsupport directly.
2. Otherwise you can try to set flash lamp pulse duration about 200 microsecond and the same 200 microsecond for Q-Switch delay to begin with. Then reduce Q-switch delay by ~10 microsecond steps and check laser energy. I suppose optimum delay should be ~170 microsecond.
3. Important is to control free running radiation, which can appear at high pump levels or in the case of bad Pockels cell alignment . You must eliminate free running, otherwise the total laser energy will include the energy of Q-switched pulse plus the energy of free running.
