According to my readings, many authors have discussed farmland heterogeneity and its effect on biodiversity, mainly by using ‘species richness’ and ‘functional traits” of some taxa.
My question is what are the novel dimensions that we can use to assess the effects of farmlands heterogeneity on biodiversity??

Do you mean 'parameters' or 'indicators'? Yes, species richness is one. Also, species density, frequency, rarity, proportion of endangered species, and exotic species :)
For assessing a farmland heterogeneity one may use the relative SD of the populations' sizes of the local species of a group like butterflies, reptiles etc. I do it with butterflies, by sampling the local species' plenteous (Ni, number of individuals of each species i), and then the relative SD of this farmland butterfly's population is equaled to the ratio SD/Average of the sampled Ni.
You might try an ecoacoustic approach as well.
