Dear all, deficient ridges are among the most challenging situations in the dental clinic; it is considered as a critical size defect. Therefore, it is of great value to find out a successful and predictable line of treatment to such a problem.
there are different techniques to increase deficient ridge either in width or lengh
as split surgical expansion technique with traditional methods or piezoelectric osteotomy
ridge distraction with intraoral distractot
inlay or onlay graft with autogenous or synthetic material
there r traditional tech like sagittal split osteotomy, onlay grafting.
we can also do horizontal osteotomy and place distractor.
Another option is sagitally splitting the mandible and plcaing the implants or placing the hybrid implants for dental rehabilitation.
At the experimental level, bone synthesis using tissue engineering is the focus of research, however, it is still some time away from clinical application.
again, the advancements have to be viewed in terms of needs. say, for example, advancements in augmentation required for complete dentures includes use of BMPs along with allografts, advancements in augmentation for placement of implant includes alveolar distraction and BMPs with titanium mesh, to name a few.
