I am working with a prodrug molecule and am researching its characterization using nmr, ftir and hptlc. Results are varying. What is the best technique/tool to investigate my compound moiety?
I think NMR is reliable technique for characterisation. Use also LC-MS, or LC-MS-MS for characterisation

NMR plays a vital role in Molecular characterization - NMR is best technique for the structural elucidation.
Mass spectrometry (LCorGC) -determines elemental composition of a compound, it gives more information on the no of elements.
So these two techniques are more enough to characterize a molecule.

I think the combination of NMR (1H), low resolution MS and TLC is a good starting point for product characterization. In addition, 13C-NMR, high-resolution MS in combination with HPLC, or even elementary (combustion) analysis, and maybe UV/Vis or FT-IR for substances that include appropriate functional moieties are use for full characterization of novel compounds.
