As we move into the next decade there is a big gap in the communication between the orthodontist patient relationship, and we need to focus on the barriers of communication between the doctor and patient to improve our clinical practice.
Patient centered assessments, empathy and discussing realistic treatment objectives and outcomes, are key factors in the orthodontic-patient relationship. Very often, as Orthodontists we place a greater emphasis on the normative assessment of our patients, without taking into proper consideration their self-perceived treatment need. The latter should form the basis for a better understanding of the patient's treatment need and a key part of the treatment objectives and the treatment planning process.
Doctor-Patient relationship must be as it was previously. Everyone should think a why there is communication gap between doctor and patient today ?
The most important factors are the faith of patient in doctor about his skill ( in term of either clinical or operative management) and honesty ( doctor is not going to rob him).
Just maintenance of these two things is most important with proper communication.
