I'm working on boat detection in digital aerial images acquired using a Drone. The goal is the development of a system to monitor the boats in "Ria de Aveiro", Portugal (http://www.riadeaveiro.pt/).
Does anyone can point me interesting publications or algorithms regarding this?

In my opinion you should train deep neural network for this http://papers.nips.cc/paper/5207-deep-neural-networks-for-object-detection.pdf
Tensorflow or even mathlab would work well for this.

I developed a strightforward algorithm for edge detection.The edges are defined directly by points with negative divegence
