What are the methods of analysis used to detect heptyl in the soil?
Alternative methods of detection methods of heptyl in the soil (for rocket fuel). Soils selected in Kazakhstan, from several areas.
frist you extract the heptly form soil by soxlet extraction method then use the tlc follwed by the hplc method
You would need to find out exactly what is in heptyl first. I've read it is made up of hydrazine, nitrogen tetroxide, and kerosene. For hydrazine use ASTM method D1385 - It's a method for hydrazine in water, so I'd extract the soil with water to get the hydrazine. For Kerosene extract with Ch2Cl2, run by GC/FID. Nitrogen tetroxide is N2O4 - or dinitrogen tetroxide - there is a document from NASA that explains how to test for that. (see attached)
