What species do you have? If it's something with lots of phenolics (grape, apple, sweetgum, pine) you might need a more involved protocol (or kit) that accounts for that issue.

Check published work in your area to see how others have succeeded in getting RNA from your species. Usually multiple protocols can work, but it's good to know what has worked in the past.
