Amaranthus viridis Linn is a common summer weed found every where. It has got medicinal properties. There is any specific research that may have extracted some compounds (alkaloids) of medicinal importance.

Amaranthus viridis is used as traditional medicine in treatment of fever, pain, asthma, diabetes, dysentery, urinary disorders, liver disorders, eye disorders and venereal diseases. The plant also possess anti-microbial properties.

The pytochemical screening of the extract from leaves of A. viridis L. indicates the presence of biologically active constituent: saponins, tannins and phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, cardiac glycoside, steroid and triterpenoids.
