Plants need to attain certain maturity level before start flowering. The time required for attaining this level vary between species. It has to be observed by allowing the potted plant to grow without pruning for a certain period. After standardization of the time, any potted plant can be used for induction of flowering. The other edaphic and climatic factors will also be included, tacidly, in the period of observation/ study.
Temperature - differential day versus night temperatures induce flowering and fruiting on wild potatoes. Photoperiod is important and photo-intensity is important too. Rhizoshpere containment size can influence flower production. Too much nitrogen may decrease flowering. Overwatering and poorly drained media have significant impacts on plant physiology, ie. don't overwater and don't underwater. Overheating will cause plants to stop flowering, even though the plant may not die. Flower buds may cease to develop or develop poorly due to overheating.
