There are many important factors to include when writing a research proposal for a research grant. This depends on the institution which gives the grant.
It is necessary to include the Mission Statement that explains what it is your are trying to do , and also a Project Narrative that explains what the proposed activities are going to be.

Its depends on the theme of the proposal. For example in case of Malaysian scenario FRGS, this expects fundamental exploration of the proposed findings and must be new. One can not include the prototype etc because this is foundation for PRGS. Like wise the proposal content will change on the basis of the classification of the project, need, focus, rationale etc. In general all the proposal expects original contribution with Social impact, feasibility of commercialisation,. This again varies with respect to the nature of proposal, science has impact like commercialisation where else non science has different impact social welfare.

The proposal should include the following factors:
A. Define the project (establish a working title).
B. Identify the agency and obtain guidelines and deadlines.
C. Write preliminary material (preproposal).
D. Conduct literature search.
E. Write first draft of full proposal. Consider the following parts:
1. Introduction (Research history, pilot project, literature review, the institution — boiler plate) Max. 10%of full proposal.
2. Problem Statement
3. Objectives Min. 50%of full proposal
4. Methodology
5. Evaluation ( Max. 10%, if required)
6. Dissemination (eg. where material might be submitted for
publication)
7. Future Funding (if required by project)
8. Budget
9. Appendices
10. Abstract or Project Summary
11. Curriculum Vitae
Not all of these parts will be required by every proposal, but most of them are. Individual agencies will have different forms or requirements.
Besides its essentials steps, a successful project needs creativity and social impact in its study or work area.
It is important to show that you have published significant research on the subject. That helps. Then you have to focus on new ideas that you intend to show that would be supported by the results of your planned study. Another important issue is to read the guidelines, etc. Very important is also to expleain all the methodological issues.
