Describe the (4) characteristic of Project Management different form other courses we work in Science & Engineering,Social Work and Arts in terms of Teaching and Learning, with and Example?
What are the four Characteristic of Project Management?
The 4 characteristics of Project Management include:
managing somethings between the start & end i.e. each project has its start & end dates - no perpetual or ongoing forever (other domains like science, engineering, social work & arts are ongoing).
project management is both science & arts e.g. timeline & cost accuracy, leadership, teamwork, soft-skills etc., not either one (other domains are very discrete on its own field).
project management is touching these triple constraints all the time: timeliness, costliness, scope completeness (other domains might or might not touch all these triple constraints at the same time).
project management is the bridge between design / plan & actual deliverable - other domains like science, engineering, social work & arts can't reach from concept / ideation to experimental outcome / actual deliverable without certain project management approach.
I believe the answer for your question may be related to the characteristics involved in the project concept iself. I like to define project in the following way:
"A project is a unique and complex effort to reach a well-defined goal within a certain period of time involving the expertise of a specialized team in an attempt to reduce the risks involved in its execution."
In this concept, I tend to give more importance to the planning of time and risks. To begin, I can indicate three preponderant characteristics: plannability, well defined temporality and predictability.
Another two characteristics I can derivate from this concept: exclusivity, since each project tends to be unique (even it keeps common characteristics with others), and complexity, since a project has a succession of processes and activities, gathering people efforts in the use of techniques and tools to manage and execute it in order to reach the ultimate goal.
So, we have: plannability, well defined temporality, predictability, exclusivity and complexity. One more than you asked.
