Research suggests that medical labs produce around a whopping 12 billion pounds of plastic waste per year globally. This includes expired, contaminated and/or damaged reagents and chemicals, broken and/or used bottles and glassware, used syringes and specimen containers/bottles, and many others. And seeing as our society today is currently facing life-threatening environmental crises, what may be some sustainable and eco-friendly ways that can be routinely implemented in laboratory specimen collection procedures that also do not pose any compromise to the specimen's integrity?
