The energy effectives of solar dryer depends also on the exit energy loss, which can be reduced by applying a proper direction and control strategy. In the case when the energy effectiveness of a given solar dryer is lower than that of conventional one negative value in saving should also be consider.
I am of the opinion that only batch type solar dryers are in use. The question of negative value in saving might not be appropriate considering a conventional electrical dryer. We know that solar dryer cannot be operated continuously unless we have a storage system. Assuming that such a system is not considered in the analysis, the concept of negative value in saving is not appropriate. A comparison of savings should be between an electrical dryer with a solar energy operated during the daylight hours for similar input in heat flux. The cost savings under similar conditions of operation is appropriate in my view.

(1) Convection loss.
(2) Losses due to Reflection and Transmission of solar energy.
(3) Ventilation Losses.
(4) Losses by Longwave radiation.
(5) Losses through the floor.

In my opinion it depends on the product (content) type, duration, type of drying system, quantity to be dried, which we keep for drying either in batch or in continuous type drying system. Generally the most important losses occurring in a drying system are convective losses, reflective losses, etc. The method of drying should be economically feasible and technically viable in order to reduce various losses compared with conventional drying methodology.
