Funding agencies increasingly ask for research dissemination plans, in particular in public health, and some require that a considerable amount of time in your project is solely dedicated to this activity. Yet I find it very hard to find good examples that could guide me in designing mine. Can anyone guide me on what are the common pitfalls, and what are the best approaches?
I would suggest that there are two primary audiences for the results of such a study--the stakeholders in the study and the general scientific community. There should be a plan for each. A specific report of your study and results should be prepared for the stakeholders including the funder. This report could also be the basis of your sharing with the general scientific community. I would suggest you first make the report available via online (e.g., ResearchGate website). Next would be submission of a paper proposal at a scientific meeting in the general genre of the study. Finally, a scientific manuscript should be prepared to submit to a scientific journal in the area of the study. This should satisfy most any potential funders.
