I know the sol-gel and hydrothermal methods. Which will have the better results?
Dear Anand,
The ZnO nanostructures can be fabricated into different forms which can vary from nanowires to hexagonal crystals to nano flowers to nano-tetrapods and so on. Also there are various methods to synthesize them like sol-gel, solvo-thermal, solid state thermal sublimation, vapour phase synthesis etc.

CVT / CVD (Chemical vapour transport) works pretty well too. Gives you nice control of the nanostructures. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/cvde.201206998/pdf.
As Shovit says there is a wealth of literature out there. Many analogous systems to collect inspiration from too.

Two forms are common
hexagonal wurtzite and cubic zincblende. Wurtzite is most stable and thus most common.
There are so many references, but a quick reference is

Preparation at higher temperatures yields the more stable form. Heating zinc blende yields wurtzite. To get zinc blende you must use careful technique avoiding excessive heating, while using fast preparation.
