I want to know about the different media used to check the growth and characterization of cadmium resistant bacteria to know the best media for its growth and also to aid identification of the bacterial species, what are the most commonly checked media for that?
Best practice, minimal medium with glucose as carbon source with incremental concentrations of cadmium. Define the ranges for sensitivity and resistance using appropriate and/or acceptable standards.
You should be able to check for Cadmium resistance using any media you wish to use. The choice of media should be dictated by the bacterial species you think you are going to get or you wish to grow.
Make a minimal medium of salts (Ex. 158 Medium) , with dextrose. Find out what is the maximum reported concentration of tolerance to cadmium by microorganisms and define your working concentrations.

You should use minimal media to prevent the precipitation of the metal with the complex media components.

I recommend that you initially use minimal concentrations of cadmium in the culture media, and then you can increase it from 10 ppm to 300 or more depending on your microorganisms respond.
