Can any one provide the list of currently working research area of computer science. There are ample number of areas and its very tough to choose one for my PhD research proposal. Can any one guide me in this regard. I shall be very thankful!
Unfortunately the there are no hot areas left except those that are market driven.
Anyway, I would consider Machine Learning and Encryption could be two good areas.

In terms of natural language processing, as Patrick has pointed out, the most frustratingly difficult is translating English to Chinese and vice versa. There is a language translator called baidu, developed in China, that mistranslates phrases and passages more often than getting an accurate translation.
AI is one area, particularly the research on developing a robotic brain for robots such as ASIMO or Petman. An associated area of AI, is in the modelling of the operation of the human brain.
