I am interested in knowing how silicon dioxide and soda-lime glass are similar and how they are different. I know that glass is ~75% silicon dioxide but does this mean we can assume that glass and a Si wafer with an oxide will act the same chemically?
The application I am specifically interested in is electroless deposition of copper on glass/SiO2 and silanzation of glass/SiO2.

Silicon dioxide and soda-lime glasses are different. Silicon dioxide, also called fused silica, contains 100% silicon dioxide and is hard to fabricate and is therefore expensive.. Soda-lime glass contains some reagents that makes the fabrication easier and expands the number of applications that these glasses can be used for.. The reagents they use include sodium carbonate, lime and aluminium oxide..
Whether a glass and a Si wafer will act the same way chemically or not depends on what is the glass composition..

Regarding my specific application, my supervisor and I have decided to use a silanization approach, similar to both the papers Jing provided me with.
Hopefully it will have good results. I will report the results here for any future readers.
