I am looking for unexplored opportunities and challenges of car batteries' end of life, within the scope and frame of the circular economy. Does anybody know about projects, success stories and unexplored challenges on this regard? Knowing about both research papers and research projects would be of great help.

I can suggest a few resent articles to you that might find interesting related to some recent development in the area.
I can also add that the car dismantlers are rather concerned on how they should handle the batteries from hybrids and electrified vehicles e.g. how to safely remove them and store them until they are taken care of by those proficient on batteries.

Malin, the information and reflections you shared reinforced my guess about the need to consolidate hybrid and electric car battery recycling, as Bjorn also suggested. It seems that a possible solution to guarantee a safe and efficient battery recycling would involve technological and process advancements, but also accountability and role setting from a regulatory point of view. Once I get back to Chalmers, I'd love to have a chat with you about the challenges involved in the Explore project!
