Big data seems to be a term mentioned by many researchers and practitioners in construction domain. I can see that the definition of big data in construction could be a bit more tricky compared with other engineering domains because construction projects often involve many organizations with different missions and a lot of human individuals who are using new technologies in building and maintaining buildings and civil infrastructures. What data could be big data in construction? Why handling such data is different from videos and imagery data, and texts that have been studies since 2000? What are underlying scientific challenges and promising techniques that should be further studied by researchers in the domain of construction engineering and management (CEM)? How CEM researchers could produce new knowledge and challenges to researchers in the domain of computer science, rather than just applying big data techniques developed by them? I am curious to know more about that, thank you for sharing your thoughts and literature!
