I agree with Sabitha... SiO2 is bio-compatible and a lot of research has been conducted with it. You will get many references. Also, it is highly thermally stable.
Toxicity is a characteristic of a dose. There are two equally correct answers to question: “Is substance XZ (for example TiO2) toxic?” :
1. “No, it is not.”
2. “Yes, it is.”
The question has therefore to be rephrased: “Which concertation and exposure duration makes substance XZ (for example TiO2) toxic to organism XXX.”
Toxicity data are relative data. They depend on dose and are also related to a control group of exposed organisms and a a group exposed to a positive control (substance with known effect). Taking al these into account helps to get right answer to question ““Is substance XZ (for example TiO2) toxic?”.
