As an Anatomist, I love everything I do in this field. I love teaching anatomy, I have great fun in research, and I enjoy to communicate my data, to students to colleagues, and to help others with their research in this field.
In this sense, teaching , researching and consulting go together in the same pack of my academic activities in the field of Anatomical studies. (and as much as I enjoy everything I do, being an anatomist is the best job in the world.)
As for pharmacology --? - I don't see what you mean...
I think people are starting to use RG for totally wrong purposes! This question is one of them! What kind of question is this? How is this related with someones research?! Also people asking question from basic sciences is apsurde! This is not FB to chat with your friends, to try to increase your RG score, ect.!
Anatomical research is a very important and interesting field to get into. There's still a lot of misunderstanding and undiscovered terrain in the morphology of the Human body. The study of gross anatomical variations is an important field of research with fundamental importance in terms of surgical good practice.
On the other hand, angiomorphology , the study of vascular anatomy , with fundamental clinical applications, is one of the many aspects of Anatomy that still needs improvement in terms of knowledge and research. Microvascular studies of organs with the improvement of new microscopic technologies, have had great advances in the second half of the 20th century, and are still the purpose of constant research efforts.
Basic sciences are still the fundaments of Medicine and their knowledge is still fundamental for good medical practice.
That's the difference between scientific or empirical medical practice...
And because we still never know enough of everything , in basic fields, even after thorough bibliographic research, we need to perform experimental research with scientific methods.
It is not a minor task in Science.
I believe Francesca du Toit was not "chatting" on Facebook to get scores, when she proposed this simple honest question, as your interventions prove interest, and this is why I spent some time, to write these lines.
Thank you Maria. It was not at all my intention to start a Facebook chat. As someone new in the field and still finding my feet in the research world, I was merely trying to establish were the research is being done in the field of anatomy, and if someone has an anatomy or basic sciences education what career options there are? Is it limited to teaching and research?
My apologies if the question was unclear or gave the wrong impression.
