I am planning to do lab experiments with climatic chambers and also field experiments in woodlands. I would like to use data logger for both types of experiments to check on temperature and humidity. Have you got any experience with data logger and can make some recommendations? Many thanks in advance.

I used HOBOs myself and loved them (https://www.onsetcomp.com/) you need to order the software and the data transfer unit separately though.
Currently our lab is using data loggers from testo, which seem to do a good job, i just have no personal experience with them (www.testo.com).
None of them are cheap.
I've only used HOBOs and temperature only (not humidity), but have had good luck with them in the field all winter where air temperatures get to -40C or a little colder as long as we put a new battery in them in the fall. Occasionally one fails or the file is corrupt, but sometimes Onset is able to save the data. At some sites, squirrels chewing the wires has been such an issue, we've had to protect the wires (you can replace the wires). We find them quite durable and can insert the probe under the bark if desired (the temperature is measured at the tip of the probe). We use them to monitor temperature in environmental chambers and walk-in cold rooms as well and they're pretty responsive. They should be calibrated.

I think we will go with the ones from HOBO as I also got them recommended by Inka Lusebrink as well and I think we even have some of them at our institute already.

Not sure why they chewed the wires, but some animals do that - pet rabbits are famous for chewing electrical cords. We had the probes underbark at 1.4 m on the tree, but mounted the loggers near the base of the tree (at about 30 cm) where they'd be more protected from extreme weather by the snow overwinter. The wires were usually chewed near the logger like they had been sitting on the ground doing it and not hanging onto the tree doing it. So, maybe if the oggers awee mounted higher, it wouldn't have been a problem. At the odd site where it was an extreme problem (80-90% of wires chewed overnight!), we wrapped a couple layers of messy chicken wire around the base of the tree, which did the trick. We used chicken wire because we were using it for something else as well, but I'm sure you could figure out some type of easy plastic tubing, old hose or PVC pipe to protect the wires if chewing was a problem at your sites.
We use about 100 Tinytag Plus 2 TGP-4500. I compared them to our official and good quality weather station sensors at the same site.The temperature measurements are good. But the relative humidity measurement has some big problems that I think are not solved today. The sensors record zero or very low values while the air is saturated or nearly saturated. Gemini (the seller) indicates that it is when the sensor is directly in contact with water. But our sensors are protected in a shelter, and the frequency of these erroneous measurements seems to be high to be only due to problems of water in contact with the sensor. Whatever the cause, the consequence is that a significant proportion of the measured humidity values cannot be used. Has anyone experienced these problems, with these sensors or others?
