Network function virtualization (NFV) is a trend for 5G and, possibly to 6G. However, current virtual network functions (VNFs) suffer with limitations of non deterministic computing, which can be subject to security issues, such as backdoors. Distributed ledger technology (DLT) enable VNFs to run under smart contracts published in public or private blockchains. To explore the potential of DLT for VNFs is a good research opportunity. What do you think? What are the benefits of smart contracts for network function virtualization?
