My question is which genotype/variety is best? The one with higher WUE (Pn/gs)? If so, then high WUE is associated with a lower yield. Is it means we are looking for the genotype which is best at water conservation mode under abiotic stresses? Kindly enlighten fellas!
There are various indices to evaluate and select an appropriate cultivar. Water productivity (WP) or water use efficiency (WUE) is only one of indices for evaluating cultivars in arid or semi-arid areas. It is recommended to cluster all the studied cultivars for this index. Then this cluster is introduced as the most appropriate cluster. On the other hand, other indices such as crop quality and resistance to other environmental stresses such as salinity, cold, heat and plant pathogenicity should also be considered. A rational decision based on considering all the aspects can be more reliable.
