What are the applications of Continuum Mechanics and Tensor Calculus in Computational Fluid Mechanics ?

I am a Master's Student in Computational Mechanics. My interests mainly are in CFD, but the subjects I am learning are Tensor Calculus and Continuum Mechanics. I just want to know how these subjects are relevant in the field of my interests.

You can look at the openFOAM programmer user's tutorial to find fundamental and quite nice info about the TENSOR calculus and Continuum Mechanics used in CFD,
